Videogame Museum in Rome Expected To Open In 2011

Rome’s latest museum project for once has nothing to do with antiquity. The first museum in the world dedicated to the history of the videogame will be called Vigamus and it will be located in the Via Sabotino, near Piazza Mazzini in the rione Prati.

The bigger part of the permanent exhibtion will be devoted to the technology and graphic art of the videogame. Likely future developments are also predicted and discussed.

Besides the permanent exhibition, which will be arranged in such a way that visitors to the museum will get an idea of the chronological history of the vide game, there will also be temporary exhibitions.

The Italian state and the city council will receive financial support from the gaming sector.

In order to realize this project a complete reconstruction of the building, which has several floors, plus a huge basement, is required. There will also be a cafe and a museum shop on the premises.

The opening of the video game museum is planned for the spring of 2011.

The ViGaMus in the Via Sabotino can be reached on foot from metro line A stop Ottaviano. Alternatively, from Ottaviano you can take bus 32(3 stops).
