The Pink Floyd Exhibition:Their Mortal Remains
The exhibition spans the entire 50 years of the band’s output, from the late sixties, when Syd Barrett was their leader, till today. Especially in the 1970’s and 1980’s Pink Floyd was one of the biggest selling bands on the planet with albums like Wish You Were Here and especially Dark Side of the Moon.
The exhibition is organized by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, with the collaboration of the group’s drummer, Nick Mason. Aubrey Powell is one of the people behind the art design collective Hipgnosis, who created several of the band’s album covers. Thorgerson, who died in 2013, was also a graphic designer and video producer.
The exhibition includes more than 350 artefacts, including a gigantic reconstruction of the Bedford van the group used to tour in the 1960’s.
The exhibition was originally organized in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It is organized in chronological order, and includes interviews with Pink Floyd’s past and present members.
Highlight of the exhibition is the so-called Performance Zone, where the last concert the band played (Live 8 in 2005) is recreated with a new mix of the song Comfortably Numb. There is also a video of the band’s historical performance in Pompei of the song One of These Days.
