After months of inconvenience on subway line A in Rome, it is now the turn of subway line B. From 9 September to 7 December 2019, part of line B will close earlier than normal. In addition, during several weekends part of this line will be completely closed.
Closure of metro line B Rome (September-December 2019)
From 9 September to 7 December, the stations between Laurentina and Castro Pretorio will close at 9 pm instead of 11.30 pm.
In addition, during the weekends of 21-22 and 28-29 September, and 5-6, 12-13 and 26-27 October, these same stops will be closed all day.
Although important stops such as Roma Termini, Colosseo and Circo Massimo will be due to be closed, it is not that bad for tourists in Rome. Distances are quite small in the center and it is generally easy to walk to most destinations. In addition, replacement buses (line MB) will be used.
The reason for the closure is the construction of a connection between metro C and the Colosseum stop on subway line B. This underground tunnel will connect this station with the new Fori Imperiali stop on line C. This station should theoretically be opened in 2023.
In the near future, first between February and June 2020 and then in the summer of 2021, several more closures are expected.
